Why Do You Snore and Why Should You Worry About it?

While you sleep, the airways in your throat and nose relax. This can sometimes cause them to narrow, so air travels faster through them. As you breathe in and out, this faster flow of air makes the soft tissues in the back of your mouth, nose and throat vibrate. This is what makes you snore.

About half of all people snore at some point during their lives, and men are twice as likely to snore than women. A recent UK study found that 44% of people find snoring the most annoying bedtime habit in a partner. In fact, over one third of couples report problems in their relationship because of snoring. But your snoring may be more than just a bedtime nuisance for your partner. Snoring can actually have serious, long-term implications for your health.

The Dangers of Snoring Related Sleep Deprivation

Every night while you sleep your brain and body goes through a crucial process of rest and repair. During deep sleep your organs and tissues are repaired, your immune system is strengthened and your energy levels are recharged. During dream sleep (REM sleep), your brain undergoes its own essential repair and restoration process. In order to complete and gain the full benefits of this crucial mental and physical repair process, you need enough hours of both types of sleep every night.

But when you snore you wake up many times during the night without even realising it. It may only be for a split second at a time, but every time you wake you are denying your body it’s full quota of deep sleep and REM sleep. The result? You wake up tired, in a bad mood, and with a headache. Long term sleep deprivation can leave you with a severe lack of energy, chronic headaches, depression, weight gain and a weakened immune system leaving you vulnerable to ill health.

Snoring robs you of essential sleep, which can be disastrous for your health. AirSnore™ stops you snoring, enabling your body to properly reboot while you sleep so you can face every day alert and refreshed.

The Health Risks of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

Frequent, loud snoring could be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea. This is when your airways close and become blocked while you sleep, stopping you breathing. The lack of oxygen triggers your brain to wake you up for a short period to restore normal breathing.

Although you probably won’t be aware that it is happening, this snoring and waking pattern can occur many times throughout the night. Not only will this be severely disrupting your sleep, making you very sleepy during the day and affecting your concentration and reflexes, but every time it happens, the oxygen levels in your blood drop. Over time this can lead to high blood pressure and a strain on your heart. And this can give you a higher risk of a stroke or heart attack. In fact, as a regular snorer, you are five times more likely to develop high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes and high cholesterol than non-snorers.

AirSnore™ ensures your airways remain open and clear so you can breathe freely and uninterrupted all night long, reducing your risk of developing snoring related health issues.

Cough or Cold Ruining Your Nights? Sleep in Peace With AirSnore™ Drops

It’s great having a device that stops you snoring and allows you proper, deep sleep. But what if you can’t get to sleep in the first place? When you’re unwell with a cough, cold, sinus or chest infection, not only are you even more likely to snore, but your blocked airways make it harder to breathe properly and get a decent night’s sleep. And when you’re feeling poorly, the last thing you want is a terrible night’s sleep making you feel even worse.

Sedating medications and sleeping pills may help you get to sleep, but they can make your snoring even worse by relaxing your neck muscles. AirSnore™ Drops contain a special blend of natural oils well known for their soothing, antiseptic properties to help relieve your symptoms and send you to sleep without snoring. By clearing your airways and easing your breathing, AirSnore™ Drops will help you fall asleep much more easily, ensuring you get the snore-free, full night’s sleep you deserve.

Simply rub the AirSnore™ Drops on your chest, neck and under your nostrils in the evening before you go to bed. Insert the AirSnore™ mouthpiece if you have it and you’ll be asleep before you even think about counting sheep.

Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil:

Rich in skin-soothing vitamin E, sunflower seed oil is easily absorbed into the skin, making it the perfect carrier oil for the other active oils in AirSnore™  Drops.

Eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) leaf oil:

Cooling and refreshing, eucalyptus oil’s decongestant effect helps loosen and clear mucus to ease breathing and relieve coughing. Vasodilation properties dilate blood vessels, allowing more oxygen into your lungs to ease your breathing.

Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) flower oil:

Highly relaxing, lavender oil has been proven to induce and improve sleep, and is often used to treat insomnia. Its antibacterial and stimulating properties also help cure breathing problems by loosening mucus and relieving congestion.

Mentha piperita (peppermint) leaf oil:

Acts as a decongestant by opening and clearing your airways and helping unclog blocked sinuses. It is also a natural painkiller and muscle relaxant, helping to soothe sore throats and aching muscles.

Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine) leaf oil:

Helps loosen and clear mucus and phlegm in your respiratory system, allowing you to breathe more easily, while natural pain relieving properties help soothe your sore throat.

AirSnore™ FAQ

The AirSnore™ mouthpiece is easy to fit to your mouth before you use it for the first time. Let it stand in hot water for a few minutes to soften, then carefully following the instructions provided, place it inside your mouth and bite down on it while it cools and moulds itself to the inside of your mouth in an exact fit. Not quite right? Don’t worry – you can start again. If it is uncomfortable during use, moves once in place or otherwise doesn’t seem to be doing its job then simply repeat the process until it is perfect. When you are ready to go to sleep, just insert the AirSnore™ mouthpiece and sleep well.

Most other stop snoring mouthpieces will push your jaw into an uncomfortable position, which can make it difficult for you to sleep properly and leave you with a sore jaw the next morning. Hardly a cure for a good night’s sleep! But the AirSnore™ mouthpiece gently moves your jaw into a position that will stop your snoring without causing you any pain or discomfort. The AirSnore™ device moulds itself to the inside of your mouth, ensuring a comfortable fit that’s just right for you. If it’s not right the first time, just place it into some hot water for a few minutes and re-mould it again until you get the perfect fit.

Many denture wearers can use the AirSnore™ mouthpiece successfully, but it depends on your particular situation. The same goes if you have any missing teeth. In this case, we recommend you ask your dentist about using the AirSnore™ mouthpiece. If you are given assurance that it is suitable in your case, you can go ahead and make your purchase with confidence. Don’t let wearing dentures or having missing teeth put you off trying the AirSnore™ mouthpiece until you have discussed it with your dentist – you could be missing out on a good night’s sleep for no reason!

We recommend you clean your AirSnore™ mouthpiece after every use. Soak your device for 10-15 minutes in cold water mixed with a little toothpaste and let it air dry before using it again. Alternatively, you can also use denture cleaning solution to clean your device.

The top four causes of snoring are sleeping on your back, being overweight, smoking, and drinking alcohol before bed. Although very heavy snorers are likely to snore in any position, if you are a mild to moderate snorer, you’ll tend to snore only when you are sleeping on your back. Try to sleep on your side to prevent you from snoring. A good trick is to sew a pocket with a tennis ball into the back of your pyjamas. This will make it uncomfortable to sleep on your back, prompting you to turn onto your side while you sleep.

Alcohol causes the muscles near your airways to relax, making it more likely for you to snore, so avoid drinking alcohol within three hours of bedtime. Smoking causes lung and nasal congestion; a major cause of snoring, so try to kick the habit if you are a smoker. Most snorers also tend to be overweight, but losing as little as a few kilograms has been shown to help effectively combat snoring. If you are overweight, consider taking some regular exercise and reducing your calorie intake to help lose some excess weight and reduce your snoring. And of course, use AirSnore™ to help combat your snoring while you make any of the above lifestyle changes.
